Prof. J. J. (Hans) Meij, PhD, MBA
The co-founder of the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity and Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore., Prof Meij is a medical anthropologist by training with more than 45 years of experience across healthcare, academia and health-system leadership, with particular expertise in healthcare strategy and the development of academic and clinical networks.
Prof. Meij's research has examined ageing and healthy longevity across diverse populations and healthcare contexts. His doctoral research investigated the genetic and evolutionary determinants of healthy longevity in rural Ghana, where he was among the first researchers to apply life history theory to a contemporary African population. His work has taken him across Africa, Europe, the United States and Australia, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to how biology, environment and health systems shape ageing.
He was a founding member of the Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing and has held senior leadership roles across healthcare and academia, including executive hospital leadership in the Netherlands and the development of academic healthcare networks in Australia. Alongside his academic work, he has advised healthcare leaders internationally on strategy, organisational development and the translation of research into healthcare practice.
At NUS, Prof. Meij plays a leading role in the Academy's education and leadership programmes, including the Healthy Longevity Intensive Course and Healthy Longevity Talent Incubator. His work connects the science of ageing with healthcare implementation, organisational strategy and capacity-building, with a particular focus on developing the people, institutions and systems needed to translate advances in healthy longevity into real-world impact.

Prof. Andrea B. Maier, MD, PhD
Awarded an Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine and Co-Founder and Director of the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity, and Professor of Gerontology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Prof Maier is a physician-scientist and specialist in internal medicine-geriatric medicine. Her work focuses on geroscience and precision geromedicine, translating the biology of ageing into evidence-based approaches to extend healthspan.
Prof. Maier has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed publications spanning the biology of ageing, biomarkers, gerodiagnostics, gerotherapeutics and interventions to preserve health and function across the lifespan. Her research examines why individuals age at different rates and how biological, clinical and digital measures can be used to identify and target mechanisms of ageing at an individual level.
At NUS, she leads multidisciplinary research and clinical translation in healthy longevity, including the development and evaluation of precision geromedicine approaches through clinical trials. Before joining NUS, she held senior academic and clinical leadership roles in Australia and the Netherlands, including Professor of Medicine and Aged Care at the University of Melbourne and Divisional Director of Medicine and Community Care at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Prof. Maier advises international organisations working to advance healthy ageing and longevity, including the World Health Organization and Hevolution, and serves on the Board of the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research. She is the past Founding President of the Healthy Longevity Medicine Society and has co-founded initiatives spanning research, education and clinical translation, with a focus on moving longevity science from discovery towards evidence-based application.
Prof. Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari, MD, DrPhD
Chair of Geriatrics at the University of Basel and leads the University Department of Acute Aging Medicine FELIX PLATTER, Prof Heike physician-scientist with specialist training in geriatric medicine, general internal medicine and rehabilitation, she holds Master's and doctoral degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health and has built an international research career focused on healthy longevity and the prevention of age-related functional decline.
Prof. Bischoff-Ferrari is the coordinating principal investigator of DO-HEALTH, a major European clinical trial and biobank investigating interventions to support healthy longevity. The study examines multiple dimensions of ageing; including phenotypic, functional and biological ageing, and has established an extensive network of researchers across Europe and the United States.
From 2013 to 2024, she established the first Academic Clinic on Geriatric Medicine and the first Chair of Geriatrics and Aging Research at the University of Zurich. In 2025, she founded the Swiss Campus for Healthy Longevity at the University of Basel, which also serves as the headquarters of the DO-HEALTH trial and biobank, further advancing the translation of healthy longevity research into clinical practice.
Prof. Bischoff-Ferrari is a member of the WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing and the Academy of Health and Lifespan Research. She also co-founded the Global Health Span Extension Consortium with international collaborators from Stanford University, Harvard and Monash University to advance the validation of novel biomarkers of ageing towards clinical application. Her work brings together clinical medicine, public health and ageing biology to develop and evaluate evidence-based approaches to extending healthy years of life.
Prof. Terrie E. Moffitt, MBE, PhD, FBA
Not only is she a professor of social development at both King's College, London, and
Nannerl Keohane University, as well as a professor of psychology at Duke University, Professor Moffitt is the associate director of the Dunedin Longitudinal Study, which follows a 1972 birth cohort in New Zealand, and is an elected fellow of the US National Academy of Medicine, Association of Psychological Science, American Society of Criminology, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, American Academy of Political & Social Sciences, the British Academy, and the UK Academy of Medical Sciences.
She also founded the Environmental Risk Longitudinal Twin Study (E-Risk), which follows a 1994 birth cohort in Britain.
Prof Moffitt's expertise lies in the areas of mental health, biological aging, and longitudinal research methods.
Her service includes major roles as member of the International Advisory Board of Bocconi University, chair of the Board on Behavioral, Cognitive and Sensory Sciences at the US National Academies of Sciences, chair of the National Institute on Aging’s Data-Monitoring Board for the Health and Retirement Study, and chair of the jury for the Klaus J. Jacobs Prize (Switzerland).
Moffitt is recipient of the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, the Stockholm Prize, the Swiss Klaus Jacobs Prize, the NARSAD Ruane Prize, and the 2022 Grawemeyer Prize for her work on mental health, and the Matilda White Riley Award from the NIH for her work on aging.
She received her PhD in psychology at the University of Southern California, and completed her postdoctoral training at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute.
