Rejuvenating Microbiome Study
Study Overview
This 12-week interventional study evaluates the combined effects of a synbiotic-enriched multi-nutrient supplement and supervised exercise on gut health, muscle function, immunity, cognition, and biological ageing in pre-frail adults aged 50 – 80 years. Participants complete a screening visit and three study visits (Baseline, Week 6, Week 12). Procedures include:
- Blood and stool sampling for nutritional, metabolic, immune, and microbiome analyses
- Cognitive, cardiovascular, and physical assessments (grip strength, VO₂max)
- Body composition (DEXA, InBody, ultrasound) and skin autofluorescence
- Questionnaires on lifestyle, sleep, and quality of life
- Supervised resistance + endurance training twice per week
- Daily intake of a research-grade powder supplement containing protein, omega-3, vitamin D, and synbiotics (GOS, FOS, pectin, Bifidobacterium longum BB536)
The goal is to develop a composite health score capturing the benefits of nutrition + exercise interventions and to understand how the microbiome contributes to resilience in ageing.
